As the days get shorter and bed is so much more inviting how do you still get up and do your morning training or get to training after work?
It can be tough...
If your already in a great exercise habit it’s just a matter of keeping that going and making sure you don’t miss sessions, exercise will make you feel better and warmer once you’ve done it. It also helps to set some short term goals 3 or 4 weeks away and then once you reach them set new ones.
If your just starting to get into a exercise habit or you started in the warmer months then you need some long term 3 month goals and then some 4 week goals along the way.
One of the best ways to stay motivated through winter is to enter and prepare for some of the great fun runs happening in Melbourne over the next few months. There is Run Melbourne on the 17th of July then the Spring into Shape series starting on the 18th of September. Both of these runs are suitable for beginners to more advanced runners. Get friends and family to do it with you so you can motivate each other and have a lot of fun on the way.
The other thing you need to do is be disciplined when it comes to training, block out your training sessions in your diary and give them the same importance as you would a work meeting, once you start moving them around you are more likely to miss sessions.
Exercise should be fun and challenging so if you are bored with your training then you need a change or else you’ll find yourself making excuses not to train.
So get out there and do it remember no one else is going to do the work for you!
